Did a Conservative Columnist Just Admit That Hannity And Right-Wing Media Wanted Cliven Bundy To Be Killed?

From Matt Lewis at the Daily Caller:

Conservatives do this to themselves. In the grand scheme of things — with scandals like Benghazi and topics like Iran to cover — should it matter that some rancher in Nevada is a racist? Should it matter what some random guy thinks about race relations? Of course, not! But it’s hard to make that argument after you’ve spent weeks building him up just so someone else can tear him down.
So why do conservatives keep doing this?

Here’s a theory: When the 1992 Ruby Ridge standoff resulted in the death of Randy Weaver’s wife and son — and when the disastrous 1993 Federal raid on the Branch Davidian in Waco, Texas took place — it’s fair to say that it did have a negative impact on the Clinton Administration (*Note: The Ruby Ridge standoff occurred in 1992, on President George H.W. Bush’s watch).

Both events were tragic, of course, but they also (understandably) fed an anti-government sentiment that was very good for the nascent conservative entertainment complex. Could it be that conservatives are still fighting the last war?

Like the aforementioned examples, Cliven Bundy had an “armed militia of supporters.” (As the New York Times recalled in 1995: “The Ruby Ridge confrontation involved an armed separatist brigade. The Davidians were also well equipped with weapons.”)

So if you are a conservative talk radio host, for example, might you not look at Bundy through the prism of Ruby Ridge? In the beginning, it might have been easy to assume Bundy would also go out in a blaze of glory, becoming a sort of martyr. And in this scenario, it would have been important to have staked out a pro-Bundy position before the government turned him into a real folk hero.
Of course, it was rather obvious when you watched Sean Hannity interview Bundy back when they were BFFs, and he kept prodding Bundy to confirm that he was going to fire at BLM officials if they continued to pursue his cattle. But we weren't supposed to jump to any conclusions at the time. For all we knew, Hannity was probably trying to convince him to give himself up and surrender peacefully.

Matt Lewis is a loyal Right-wing soldier, so to see someone like him admit that this was the end goal for people like Hannity and the rest of RWNM is pretty shocking to say the least.

States' Rights Supporting Secessionist Loses Popularity Following News of Insensitive Comments

You know, I'm really glad that Cliven Bundy's fifteen minutes of fame are over, but I can't help but be disappointed over the reason that caused his conservative fanboys in the media to head for the hills. The man broke the law and lived like a moocher for twenty years, and when he was about to be punished for his transgressions, he decided he was going to KILL federal agents! And yet, few on the Right had any issue with that, and in fact,  some (such as Sean Hannity) were actively encouraging this senile pinhead to make things a tad more interesting.

No, what ended up doing Bundy in wasn't his threats to commit a blatant act of sedition, but rather his horrendously racist remarks regarding the blahs. Of course those comments were idiotic and offensive, but what Bundy was doing before actually involved the possibility of multiple people actually getting KILLED.

When it comes to U.S. politics, I always feel like our priorities are almost always out of order. This incident reminds me of how Herman Cain's (remember him?) campaign came to an end, which The Onion summarized rather perfectly.

Oh, Look. Expanding Medicaid Creates Jobs

It hasn't been a great few weeks for Republicans, and it looks like it's only going to get worse:

Anticipating a boost in business from the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion, Molina Healthcare of Michigan plans to add 337 new jobs in Troy and 125 new jobs in Detroit.

Molina is the third largest Medicaid health-maintenance organization in Michigan with about 213,000 members as of January and 315 employees. It is a subsidiary of Long Beach, Calif.-based Molina Healthcare.

“The Affordable Care Act in general has had a positive impact on Molina Healthcare as an enterprise, which has led to a lot of the growth that we’re anticipating over the next several months and years,” Stephen Harris, president of Molina Healthcare of Michigan, said Tuesday night.

Who ever would have thought that increased demand in a product would lead to more jobs? And why does the FREE MARKET allow such job creation to occur when its will is being so clearly defied?

Rep. Louis Gohmert: Democrats Are In Bed With The Job Creators!

Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-TX), a man who by all rights is the quintessence of Teabaggerism (seriously, the guy looks like he was created in a lab at the Heritage Foundation, sort of like a reverse Captain America), gave a speech at the New Hampshire Freedom Summit the other day. There was a lot to comment on in his roughly twenty minute deluge of stupid, but I wanted to focus on one brief portion:

The dirty little secret on Wall Street: Eighty percent of the Wall Street executives’ and their spouses' donations go to Democrats. It’s like they’ve got some kind of little sweet deal, where we’ll call you fat cats and demean you and stuff, but you will get richer than your wildest dreams. It’s time for that to stop.

The folks over at Politifact already made short work of Gohmert's claim, but I wanted to point out something else, as well.

This sort of thing happens every so often in conservative circles. Most of the time, right-wingers agree that Obama's a freedom hating, success despising, class warrior who dreams of someday sending the wealthy to the guillotines. But occasionally, possibly due to realizing that most Americans don't have the same sychophantic obsession with the 1% that they do, some of these same people take a slightly different line of attack. The new argument goes that Obama and his ilk in the Democratic Party are the ones who really love the rich, and hate the poor and middle class!

Needless to say, it's a rather bizarre argument to make, both for the reasons mentioned above, and the fact that Gohmert himself has said otherwise:

“He is playing class warfare, and I have been really hurt for America as I’ve seen our president basically take a page out of the playbook of Darth Vader’s leader, the evil Emperor, when he was saying, ‘Yes, feel the hatred,’ ” Ghomert said in a phone interview published on the conservative site.
“This president says, 'Look around, see things you want,' " continued the outspoken Republican congressman. " 'You ought to be jealous of what they have. Help us push legislation that takes their money away and gives it to you.' "

Oh, and since Gohmert went ahead with the Star Wars analogy, I'm guessing that whole blowing up Alderaan thing was Vader's version of Obamacare?

"Conservative Christian" GOP Rep. Demonstrates How "Christian" He Is

These stories never get old:

Rep. Vance McAllister (R-LA) issued the statement a few hours after a local Louisiana newspaper, The Ouachita Citizen, published the video online. According to the Citizen, the video shows events that occurred Dec. 23 outside McAllister's district office in Monroe, La. The Citizen identified the woman in the video as McAllister’s district scheduler Melissa Peacock.

"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness," McAllister said in his statement. "I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed."

No doubt his marriage was jeopardized by the growing support for gay marriage.

Allen West: Welfare Slavery Is Worse Than Actual Slavery

Good news, people. Former congressman, and teabagger darling, Allen West has a book coming out soon! The fine folks at Glenn Beck's The Blaze, posted several excerpts from the book that are sure to make "liberal heads explode". Sounds fun!

There's ample hilarity within that article, but I wanted to focus on two quotes in particular:

“When Booker T. Washington talked about education, self-reliance and entrepreneurship, he was describing economic independence. But the Great Society has left a legacy of economic dependence, a new form of slavery, and to me, a far more dangerous one, because it destroys the will and determination to excel. As President Franklin Roosevelt said, welfare is “a subtle destroyer of the human spirit.” And that is what I see when I go back to the ol’ Fourth Ward and drive along Boulevard…

The Great Society has turned out to be a big lie, and sadly, those in my community who bought into it are stuck on the twenty-first-century plantation.”

“The Left and its black gatekeepers went absolutely apoplectic some months ago when I used the word enslavement. But you tell me a better description for what social welfare dependence breeds. To me it’s worse than physical enslavement, because it enslaves human spirit. It destroys the will and determination to seek improvement and a better life.”

Yes, Allen West is making the argument that the slavery resulting from government trying to provide you assistance is worse than actual slavery.  See, actual slavery might have been bad, sure enough, but at least slaves back then still retained a sense of self reliance and that CAN DO attitude!

Also, bonus points for invoking conservative icon, Franklin Roosevelt to lambast the idea of big government.
