Sun Protection at its Finest with UV Protection Clothing
When we think about sun protection clothing we simply think about hats, long sleeve shirts, and pants to protect us from the sun’s direct rays. Just as long as a large portion of clothing covers our skin, we simply think that we are safe from the sun’s damaging rays. Well its pretty safe for us to be wrong for once in our lives though.
Research has proven the little known fact that ultraviolet rays are able to penetrate the lightweight clothing we wear. Even if you go out in the longest sleeves while wearing the most flowing pants during the summer, you will still be exposed to the sun’s powerful rays and the UV rays that come along with it. So wearing long sleeves and pants are not the solution but instead, the perfect solution is to wear the proper kind of sun protective clothing or UV protective clothing.
By now we all know what happens to us when we are exposed to the sun for too long unprotected, this is due all the scientifically backed research but mainly due to our very own personal experiences.
Choose the right fabrics.
Now that you have the idea as to what uv blocking clothing is about, you should know that not all of them are created equally. It is now up to you to find the perfect fabric that will help you protect yourself from the harmful UV rays.
The first thing to talk about when talking about fabric is the weave, a rule of thumb is that looser woven fabrics are less able to protect the wearer from the sun. To be able to see the cloth’s weave tightness, try holding it up to a light source, if you can see a lot of light that passes through, this means the same or more amount of sunlight will also pass through.
The next thing is the color of the fabric itself. As you might have noticed darker colored fabric have lesser amount of light pass through them. What this means is that dark blue denim is able to protect you more than a light white cotton shirt.
But color and weave is not enough to make a fabric UV resistant enough. UV protective clothing have been out in the market for some time, it is made out of a fabric that has been treated with UV inhibiting solutions and the fabric is a lot more tightly woven. The most common fabric being used to make UV blocking clothing is nylon but other fibers such as cotton as well as polyester is also being used. UV protection clothing come with unique features designed to add extra level of comfort and protection such as air vents to keep the wearer cool and roll up collars to protect the neck.
